The original Atari Control Panel was released as an accessory and would not allow separate modules for each task. Fortunately Atari did realize that it would be a good idea to allow the Control Panel to be able to load a module only when it is executed. With this solution you won´t have to lock up a lot of memory by keeping modules RAM-resident. Atari therefore released xControl, which was able to handle the new module format (CPX-files). Since then a couple of other Control Panels have been introduced (which all use the CPX-format) and they differ somewhat in looks and features. Take a look below and try to figure out which one you fancy!
| Freedom is both a fileselector and a control panel, and it does indeed perform both these tasks very well. You are allowed to have several modules opened at the same time and you can resize the window showing the modules entries. It has a quite neat look, but that is compensated by the somewhat slow redraws. Author: Kolja Koischwitz and Christian Krüger |
Well, what can I say? This is the original control panel and it has no real advantages over the clones mentioned above, except being true Atari Corporation software! Author: Atari Corporation |
